The Blue Devils traveled to Kirtland for a clash of undefeated teams and outlasted Hornets 53-44. Length and athleticism helped Independence grab a 15 point half time lead but the second half became a more rough and physical 16 minutes. That style of play limited the field goals but allowed the Devils to shoot 24 free throws, connecting on 18.
Riley Wilson led all scorers with 21 on 60% shooting from the floor. Haylee Dmitruk also had double figures with 13 points and added 6 assists. Rounding out the scoring for the Blue Devils was Madison Stepanik tallying 8, Kella DiGeronimo recorded 6 points, 7 rebounds and 5 steals. Anna Weber made a 3, Brook Pillar knocked in 2 free throws and although Reni Kaiser and Natalie George did not score, their contribution was holding Kirtland star scoreless in the first half and only 12 for the game.
The Blue Devils are 14-0, 10-0 in the CVC and are in action Monday at home with Trinity.
