Kella Digeronimo scored 16 points, Riley Wilson and Haylee Dmitruk added 12 and 11 respectively and Independence swept the season series with Kirtland, 58-50, on Saturday afternoon.
The battle for first place was a well played, hard fought contest with neither team gaining a substantial lead. A key 3 pointer by Digeronimo, a driving layup by Dmitruk and 10 of 13 free throw shooting by the team in the fourth quarter put the Blue Devils in front to stay.
Kella had 4 steals, Riley had 3 blocks and Haylee dished out 5 assists to go along with their point totals. Erica Esper pitched in 8 points on 3 of 6 shooting and the Blue Devil bigs combined for 10 points ,Kaitlin Richards with 6 and Madison Stepanik with 4. Madison also contributed to the victory with 8 rebounds and 2 blocks. Amy Ksiazka managed a point but more importantly wore out Kirtland’s best shooter with tremendous defensive energy and effort.
